Artist Statement
Malala Yousafzai is an incredible and inspirational young woman. At the age of 15, she was shot in the head by the Taliban because she spoke out against the Taliban’s beliefs about girls’ education. With the amazing support of her father, she has become a fierce advocate for all children’s rights to a basic education of 12 years. I kept my quilt very simple in design and let the text do the work. Malala has had a singular focus in her life, and her image is recognized world-wide. I hope my art quilt does justice to such a remarkable person.
