Artist Statement
My name is Susan Auden Wood and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I started patchwork and quilting at the age of eighteen when I made a hexagon bed quilt for my wedding the following year. Over the years I have slowly progressed towards art quilts and enjoy the process of creating a picture rather than just following a pattern. This also provides the opportunity to learn and use lots of varied techniques. In this quilt I have tried to depict the Queen as seen throughout the world on the front of various postage stamps.
Woman’s Groundbreaking Accomplishment
Queen Elizabeth II is the longest serving monarch in British History with 64 years on the throne.
Techniques
Made using a combination of piecing plus using a method of quilting I learnt in a class with Anna Williams from NZ which I used for the face and crown.
Materials
My Queen Elizabeth quilt was made using all cotton fabrics, various threads for embroidery, Vliesofix and Wool/Polyester batting.
