Artist Statement

Julia Child’s passion for cooking and her devotion to teaching, brought her into the hearts of millions and ultimately made her an American icon. She was a fixture on American TV, hosting 13 different series from 1963-2000 and winning 3 Emmy Awards. She was never afraid to take a risk or even fail in front of the camera. She published 18 cookbooks; most good cooks have one or more of her books on their shelf.

In addition to the TV set (featuring her signature blue apron) and a small stack of cookbooks I chose to depict a few of the tools of her trade and some the ingredients Julia used to prepare the dishes she loved to demonstrate. Julia said, “Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”

I have become and remain tremendously interested in both good cooking and art quilts.
