Artist Statement
Israel’s own imperious ‘iron lady’ and first woman prime minister, Golda Meir was an Israeli teacher, kibbutznik, stateswoman and politician and the fourth elected Prime Minister of Israel.
As tribute to Israel’s great pioneer, leader, and advocate for her people, I chose to depict her as the larger than life “Iron Lady” that she was. She devoted her life to the creation, development and security of the state of Israel, thus the iconic symbols of the state, its flag, and the legions of kibbutzniks, with total equality for women unheard of in those times.
Woman’s Groundbreaking Accomplishment
Israel’s first female prime minister, Golda Meir was voted the Most Admired Woman in America during the 1970s.
