Artist Statement

I wanted to participate in the HERstory project and when I saw that Nancy Pelosi was on the list, I decided that it would be interesting to get to know her better. She has quite a long political resume in the Democratic Party. I am amazed at her commitment to public service and the energy that she brings to her many roles. I wanted to express this by having her assume a dynamic pose that demonstrates her passion. I chose colors to portray her vibrant personality and I embellished with beads, which are her trademark accessory.

Woman’s Groundbreaking Accomplishment

Nancy Pelosi was the first woman to be elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives. She served in that capacity from 2007 to 2011.
